Confusion Over President Buhari’s Health Status: Read the President’s Letter to the Senate House.

There appears to be a very big confusion in the presidency over President Buhari’s Health Status in relation to his ear infection and treatment in London.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina had yesterday,  said President Buhari is not in London for treatment.

He was reacting to reports making the rounds that by traveling to London, Buhari violated the Federal Government’s rule that says that government officials will not be paid for foreign medical treatment, unless the case cannot be treated in Nigeria.

Adesina referred our correspondent to the statement he issued on Sunday about the President’s 10-day vacation.

He explained that Buhari did not go to London for treatment but to rest.

Adesina said, “You can check the statement we issued on Sunday again. The President did not go to London for treatment.”

However, in a letter to the Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, told the the Red Chamber that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will act on his behalf as President for the 11 days he would be on medical vacation to the United Kingdom.

In the letter to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, President Buhari said he was writing in line with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

According to the letter, which was read at plenary yesterday by Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided, the President said he would be away from June 6 to 16.

The letter read: “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, I wish to inform the distinguished Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from June 6 to 16, and while I am away, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, will perform the functions of my office.

“Please, accept, as always assurances of my highest esteemed consideration.”

It would be recalled that President Buhari had, last week, visited the Aso Villa clinic, where he was treated for an ear infection.

The presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, had however, claimed that the President was hale and hearty, thereby casting doubts on the rumours.

However, Adesina made a U-turn last Sunday, and admitted that President Buhari had an ear infection and would, therefore, travel to the United Kingdom for a 10-day medical vacation.
